| Slavery, like most other topics in HAVEN, is quite serious.
The rules that govern it are fairly extensive, and designed to protect all players
involved in this type of storyline. This page is presented to give the muns of HAVEN
slaves or potential slaves (but especially those who may have joined or intend to join
Rask's coffle) some insight into what is expected. About
the Storyline
Those who join Rask's household as slaves are entering a blended world,
very similar to Gor (John Norman) with a few tidbits from Sleeping Beauty (A.N,
Rocquelaire) and a little modern BdSm culture all shaken together and landed right beyond
the borders of Rhydin. A purist of any of these cultures is not going to be happy in the
storyline. It's not Gor. It's not Rhydin. Things will be somewhat different from anywhere
else you're likely to have been, and just when you think you know it all is when
you'll be informed in no uncertain terms that what you know may not mean squat. That's
part of the fun of this game. Ask a lot of questions, don't get frustrated, and above all,
try to have an enjoyable roleplaying experience, and help those around you do the same.
For roleplaying purposes only, HAVEN allows something similar to a forced
collaring. When circumstances warrant, someone from another forum can become a slave of a
HAVEN member, providing both muns are willing. Essentially this works out to no more than
recruiting, if the truth be known, with a nice veneer of RP on top. For instance: in
HAVEN, if a free woman seeks a male HAVEN slave for sexual services outside a tavern which
offers such services, she is considered promiscuous and can be claimed by the male slave
for his Master or Mistress. That one then becomes a member of HAVEN as property. Obviously
if the mun doesn't agree to play it, they won't. If you find yourself in such a situation,
explain the storyline, and ask if they want to play. If they don't, don't waste your time
developing it further or trying to force the issue.
Characters can also become HAVEN slaves by losing a prize match to a HAVEN
slave. If you are a HAVEN slave who enters a prize match against a free person of another
forum, be sure they understand what is expected if they lose BEFORE the match begins. Do
not waste time prize matching someone who will not play the storyline.
Guidelines
In General
- You will be and behave as an adult. This storyline involves adult themes,
and by joining it, you signify that you are of legal age in your area. You will also be
asked your age. Further, you are expected to ask the ages of those you play with, and make
every effort to avoid involving minors in adult aspects of the storyline.
- You are expected to maintain storyline integrity at all times. Your out of
character comments are to be kept to IM, and out of the room. "Mun-bubbles" are
distracting and annoying to other people in the RP.
- You are expected to be courteous with playing time, and not to constantly
hog the spotlight with crisis after crisis. Everyone likes to shine, and no one wants
someone else to ruin their moment.
- You are expected to use the Ignore feature of chat rooms. The general
rule is that childish, disruptive behavior does not warrant retort or argument. Do not get
into arguments, IC or OOC with disruptive people---put them on Ignore. If you are
requested to Ignore a screen name by your master, do so.
- Generally screen names with mundane profiles or no profile at all are to be
ignored, though not necessarily placed on Ignore. If someone with no profile or a mun
profile indicates an interest in playing in the storyline and is not being a disrtuption,
play with them if you wish. You might politely suggest (in IM) that they create a
role-playing profile.
- You are expected to read the slavery rules in the HAVEN Charter and in the
Handbook on Slavery. These can be found by visiting the HAVEN Main Website and following
the Site Map link, or by requesting text versions from Rask or Kandas.
- If you play in the storyline for two or more (mun) weeks, and you decide you
wish to remain part of it, you will need to fill out a HAVEN application so that you can
be registered as a member of the forum. If you are joining Rask's chain, you will become
part of his house, DAoK, as property.
- HAVEN members generally are elitist roleplayers, and prefer to play with
similar caliber players. While we admit there are good players who use the shortened
online dialect, most of us prefer that words such as to, for, you, and such be typed out.
The normal online conventions such as brb and afk of course do not fall into this
category. This is NOT a rule...simply a suggestion and request.
Working at the Brass Door or Dante's Bistro
You are NOT expected to cyber with everyone who indicates a
desire to do so. In the Brass Door, the sexual services of a slave are included in the
price of a drink, however, if you (the mun) do not like the feel of a situation or do not
want your character with a specific other character, find a reason not to be. DO NOT put
yourself in an uncomfortable situation, and if you find yourself in one, do not stay
simply for the sake of storyline. If you're uncomfortable, it's gone beyond the boundaries
of the storyline anyway.
If your character is working at The Brass Door, he or she
will be assigned an alcove. Several other people will have the link to that room, for the
slave's security. The link will not be used unless you call for assistance.
While working at the Brass Door, it is more important to
serve those in the room than those who wish to go to an alcove. If you are the only
one present and there is more than one customer, explain to the patron who wishes to take
you to an alcove that you cannot because there is no one else working.
If you take a customer to an alcove, try to limit the amount
of time spent there so that others working in the tavern can be freed to work the alcove
also if they wish. The goal is to keep The Brass Door's room open, and the storyline in
motion.
Generally, unless a customer wishes it otherwise, female
slaves greet and serve male customers, and male slaves greet and serve female customers.
Slaves are expected to check the profile of everyone who walks in, and greet them
appropriately AFTER they have made an entrance. Anyone who has not typed an in-character
line is not in the room. This is true both in Dante's and the Brass Door.
